Borehole Drilling

End-to-end borehole drilling services: site assessment, drilling, casing, pump installation and testing for a reliable private water supply.

End-to-end borehole drilling services, including site assessment, drilling, casing, pump installation, and testing.

A borehole is the most reliable answer to Nairobi's intermittent water supply — but it is also a project with real geological and regulatory substance. Done properly, it delivers decades of independent water; done carelessly, it delivers a dry hole, a silted casing or a pump that dies young. We manage the whole sequence from survey to commissioning.

Site assessment and permits

Drilling begins before the rig arrives. We assess the site's geology from existing records and neighbouring boreholes, plan the drilling position for both yield and practicality — clear of septic systems, structures and access constraints — and guide the client through the regulatory steps for groundwater abstraction, including the required survey and permitting.

An honest assessment includes telling you what the data does not support. Where a site looks poor or the expected depth makes the project uneconomic, we say so before you commit to drilling rather than after.

Drilling, casing and development

The drilling method is matched to the formation — mud rotary through soft overburden, air percussion through hard rock. As drilling proceeds, we log the strata, watch for water strikes, and case and gravel-pack the hole so the aquifer section draws clean water rather than sand.

After drilling, the borehole is developed: flushing and airlifting until the water runs clear and the yield is measured. This step is where many contractors cut corners; skipping or rushing development leaves a well that pumps sand, fouls the pump and silts up within a few years. We develop until the well is stable, then report the tested yield honestly.

Pumps, storage and commissioning

A borehole only becomes a water system when the pump, rising main, controls and storage are installed. We select a submersible pump matched to the tested yield and the required delivery — not the biggest model available — fit dry-run protection, and connect the borehole to the building's tanks and distribution.

Commissioning includes water quality advice: new borehole water should be tested before it is put to domestic use, and where results call for it, we install appropriate treatment. We hand over with records — depth, casing, yield, pump setting — so every future service technician knows exactly what is in the ground.
