Water Pump Installation & Repairs

Pump selection starts with two numbers: the flow the building needs at peak, and the pressure head the system must overcome — static lift to the highest outlet plus friction losses through the pipework. We calculate both from the actual installation, then specify a pump whose duty curve sits comfortably in its efficient range rather than at its limit.

Installations are done cleanly and completely: solid mounting with vibration isolation, valves and unions for isolation and future servicing, pressure switches or controllers set correctly, non-return valves where required, and electrical work to the relevant standards. Booster sets for apartments, single pumps for homes, and borehole pumps for direct supply are all routine work for our crews.

Pumps age quietly. Bearings wear, impellers erode or clog with sediment, pressure switches drift, and check valves lose their seat — long before the pump stops, performance quietly drops. Scheduled servicing restores it: cleaning strainers and impellers, checking electrical draw and earth continuity, verifying switch settings, and re-seating or replacing valves.

For buildings with multiple pumps or alternating duty, we verify that the changeover actually works. It is a common finding that the standby pump has never run since installation and fails the first day it is genuinely needed.

When a pump fails, we diagnose systematically: supply side first (water level, foot valve, suction leaks), then the pump itself (seized or worn rotating parts, motor windings, capacitors), then the control side (pressure switch, controller, protection devices). This avoids the common pattern of replacing a whole unit when a switch or valve was the real fault.

Where repair is not economic — sealed units with failed motors, or pumps whose impellers and casings are worn beyond rebuild — we say so and quote a replacement matched to the current system, upgrading the controls or protection where the old installation was the reason the last pump died.
